Light against the autumn and winter blues

We all need light to wake up and feel fit. The right lighting also helps to improve the quality of sleep and general well-being - and to defy the widespread winter blues in the dark season. With the right choice of luminaires and lamps, the right course can be set at home.

Activating light in the morning

The positive effects of light can be put to good use at home. They are particularly useful in the winter months and at the time of the time change. Those who cannot spend much time outdoors should make sure they have sufficient daylight or artificial light with a cool colour temperature during the day (light sources with values above 5,300 Kelvin or appropriate LED lamps). Activating light in the morning, for example as large-area general lighting in the bathroom or in the kitchen at breakfast, gets the body going.

Relaxing light in the evening

In the evening, on the other hand, the body should be prepared for a good night's rest. At least two hours before bedtime, therefore, warm white light with low blue components is the right thing to do to stimulate melatonin production. Halogen lamps and corresponding warm white LEDs are suitable for this purpose. In addition, luminaires should be switched on in the evening hours to provide direct light rather than large-area light. This also applies to bedside reading lights. Anyone who likes to sit in front of the computer for a long time in the evening should check their screen: Modern LED screens usually have high blue components that have an activating effect. It is therefore better to switch off the PC two hours before going to bed or to adjust the screen accordingly. Many LED luminaires and lamps today offer different shades of white light and also coloured light. Equipped with a digital control system, the lighting can thus also provide the right light at the right time at home.

GROSSMANN luminaires with Casambi lighting control can be easily and continuously adjusted in light colour to provide the right light at the right time of day at home. This improves well-being and supports the natural rhythm of people. The luminaires can be controlled intuitively and easily via an app. This is how light can support health and becomes a feel-good factor.
