Light in the living room - focus on life and well-being

Reading, relaxing, watching TV, playing games, using the iPad, receiving guests: The living room is the centre of the domestic living space and is used in many ways. This makes flexible lighting that meets the different requirements and moods all the more important. The lighting must follow the use. The fact that the right light in the right distribution is available with pinpoint accuracy is a basic prerequisite for the multifunctional use of the living room that is taken for granted today. In this context, the lighting must therefore both create good visual conditions to meet the diverse requirements and provide a certain level of comfort when needed. A single, centrally placed luminaire - as in earlier times - can no longer do justice to the diverse lighting tasks in the living room. For a room with a floor area of 20m², the use of at least three, preferably four to five luminaires is recommended. They provide general and zone lighting. It becomes really cosy with additional accent lighting. Suitable light sources are LEDs in warm white with good colour rendering properties of at least Ra 80.

Basic lighting in the living room

In the living room, room lighting should provide pleasant ambient brightness, which can be generated by a wide variety of luminaires, classically by a ceiling luminaire, an uplighter or a track system. Alternatively, it can be provided by several wall luminaires, cove lighting or high-intensity floor luminaires.

An important feature of all these options is dimmability so that the light can be adjusted to the desired mood. Indirect room lighting helps to soften strong contrasts between light and dark, thus preventing eye fatigue. Broad and diffuse wall, ceiling or floor luminaires are suitable. The interplay of direct and indirect light is particularly harmonious. Ceiling washlights, so-called uplights, are suitable for indirect light. In the free-standing version, one ceiling washlight is usually enough; in the wall luminaire version, several are welcome. An important note at this point: only indirect lighting reduces shadows and contrasts, which leads to a diffuse impression of the room. More demanding visual tasks, such as reading, writing or manual work, always require a direct lighting component.

Accent lighting and zonal lighting in the living room

Light creates atmosphere. Only when there are several light sources and different brightness levels in a room does a homely ambience unfold. Accent lighting for pictures, sculptures, shelves or display cabinets has a loosening effect. The GROSSMANN FORTE picture light is ideal for illuminating works of art or mirrors. It is available in 2 different lengths.
Table luminaires are very suitable for putting chests of drawers or side tables in the right light. If a ceiling outlet or track system is available, pendant luminaires can also provide the lighting at the coffee table. Interesting accents can also be created on larger wall areas with several downlights installed in rows along the wall.

GROSSMANN offers a wide range of luminaires for the living area. Bright, dimmable ceiling luminaires provide the desired basic brightness, wall luminaires for lighting accents and a pleasant feeling of space.
